Chapter 15 Wednesday, 0430 hours (4:30 AM)

A little before dawn, Sam and Elliot got out of their car and headed for Jungle World to begin their stake-out. For protection against wild animals, they carried guns, and for protection against Calfers, the guns had silencers. They reached their lookout point and took turns watching the Jungle World back entrance.

Then, just after sunrise, Sam saw the wolf. It ran up to the entrance, nosed open the door, and disappeared inside.

"Damn," said Sam, "the door was unlocked the whole time. We could have gone in and snatched the canteen. Damn it."

"It's all right," said Elliot. "The next time he goes out, we'll go in."

"Yeah," said Sam. "and I'm going to get that canteen, even if I have to beat it out of one of those brats where it's hidden."

"Come on," said Elliot. "We're not about to beat up little kids."

"Oh yeah?" said Sam.

"We're not."

Sam didn't answer.
